New Journey, Does It Happen Every Day?

Tags :

Are you on a new journey? Have you ever felt stuck, or feel like you’re at the end? Perhaps not everything is as it first appears.

Late May or early June is typically about graduation. Young kids from grade school, teenagers from high school and those who have completed certificates or degrees in college. It signals the end.

It might also be true for wedding season. While marriages are a bond and are visionary for what lies ahead, they also include an ending. The ending of the single life and the old ways of navigation.

We see many other endings in life. Selling a car, leaving an apartment, or selling a home.

Most of these things represent a chosen path. A conscious ending point, a milestone.

In some cases, we seem to be more reflective of the end, instead of a new beginning.

New Journey

Is a graduation ceremony a marker for the end of a journey, or the celebration of a new one?

A similar question might be asked about a wedding or starting a new job.

What is the feeling at sunrise or sunset? A new beginning, closure?

It seems that when something signals a perception of ending, we take a breath, we reflect, and then we start to prepare for the next chapter in life.

There may be cause to celebrate, or even to mourn.

Yesterday something ended, perhaps it felt like just another day. Once in a while though, there will be a bigger event. Something that will be recognized as a marker, a turning point, an opportunity for what is next.

For most cases a new journey starts right after the ending of a different one.

Instead of focusing on what is over, remind yourself to focus on what is about to unfold.

Untold Story, What Is Your Story?

Tags :

Do you have an untold story? Chances are, everybody has one. That is unless everything in your world is staying exactly the same.

As the calendar year ended and a new year started, many commentators and television hosts were commenting on how hard, painful, and tragic the past year was. They also were offering hope and optimism for the new year.

What story have you told yourself?

Fresh Starts

Historically the calendar switch from December 31 to January 1, serves as a reset. Many people are eager to make the switch, turn the page, and get moving all while Auld Lang Syne is offered as background music.

If you’ve been anxious for the turning of the page, you should feel some relief and new found hope.

Just as everyone reads at their own pace, so goes the turning of the page. Those who are eager really don’t wait around for the calendar to catch up.

They’ve already made the choice about making a difference.

What is often unknown is the circumstances you’ll encounter. The calendar only changes one thing, the optimism of the people who have been waiting.

If you’ve been working from that reason, the reason of a date in time, you are now in luck, it has changed.

Untold Story

You choose your attitude, what you will believe, and how you will navigate the easy and the difficult.

Perhaps everyone has an untold story. The story that is yet to be told because it hasn’t happened, yet.

If you could tell any story about yourself, your life, or your career what would that story sound like? Who are the characters and what impact did you create? What is your legacy?

You don’t have to wait for the calendar to write a new story. If you did, you’re now ready.

You are the author.

Get busy.

Fresh Start and Leveraging The Boundary

Tags :

People sometimes ask for a do over. The idea is that if we throw away the mistake, the failed project, or the effort that we feel we wasted we can do better in our next attempt. Are you looking for a fresh start?

Clean Slate

The baby boomer with his or her yellow pad just rips the page off, crumbles it, and uses the nearest trashcan for a basket. The millennial highlights all the text, and then cuts it. Regardless of our generation, we often feel there is something magical about a fresh start.

We seem convinced in our fresh start that we will develop some newfound creativity. It is a clean white board, a new document in our word processor, or staring at the “What’s on your mind?” prompt.

For years, we’ve been told to color outside the lines, think outside of the box, and know no boundaries. The problem often is that no matter how hard we try we still face limitations, a framework that we believe we need to operate within.

Sometimes our frame is too small and our ideas are also limited. In other cases, our frame is too big. We can’t see a clear path for problem definition and most of all, problem resolution.

Leverage

Operating within our frame, our clean sheet, or a blank screen, still has value. The frame may not be our worst obstacle. Our worst obstacle may be discovering how we leverage everything on the edges of the boundary.

It may be the right turn on red at the traffic light, asking boss at just the right moment, or calling the client when they have just discovered more room in the budget.  At any other time, we would have been stopped and feel forced to operate within the boundary.

Fresh Start

Your next fresh start may feel like it begins with a clean slate, but instead of diving into the middle or upper left hand corner to get started think about working from the edges.

It may be the leverage of the boundary that holds the most value.
